Review of Ma Cuisine, Twickenham

The Gems decided to return to MA CUISINE to celebrate the end of our first year as a book and restaurant review club. We voted this restaurant as the best of all the restaurants we had frequented because of its unpretentious interior, friendly staff and most importantly excellent cuisine in true French style.

MA CUISINE is a stones throw from Twickenham Station opposite Heatham House. It has an unassuming exterior and inside it has the feel of a 60’s French bistro. This time Xmas parties were in full swing so we felt rather pushed to one side to accommodate these events. We sat on benches along the wall which made us higher than the tables and so eating was rather uncomfortable. The service as always was warm and friendly. The staff are mostly French and that was language that was spoken in the kitchens. Ruby and I chose the Bouillibasse for the starter and Moonstone chose the Foie Gras. The Bouillibasse was rich and heavy with a slight saffron taste, perfect as a main course but too full on for a starter. Moonstones’ Foie Gras was delicious. I had Calves liver on a light vegetable bake which was very tasty. Ruby had mushroom risotto which was very light and creamy. Moonstone had lamb roast which came away at the bone and very tender. We were all so full after our second course that we decided not have the dessert course. We felt the second time round the experience wasn’t as fulfilling as the first but that was probably due to the time of year rather than the restaurant itself. The clientele that night were in very festive mood and were very noisy. The food was excellent and we would highly recommend it as a good local restaurant.
